Hello!
My name is Katie and I'm from New Zealand (NZ) and the United Kingdom (UK). I have taught English and ESOL in both countries, as well as in Japan.
I am passionate about teaching English, learning about different cultures and all things to do with communication.
When I am not teaching, I enjoy a wide range of artistic activities, walks in the countryside and making my home beautiful.
Teaching experience:
I have taught students with different abilities, backgrounds and interests for over 20 years. I have also taught English to 6-year-olds through to adults, but I specialise in teaching junior-high-school-aged students. I have a teaching degree from New Zealand, specialising in teaching high school art and English, as well as a CertTESOL from Trinity College, London.
I have been teaching online for more than 5 years. I am happy to teach small family groups as well as individuals.
Teaching style:
My teaching style is student-centred and holistic. I enjoy finding new ways to make learning fun. I am a patient teacher and am happy to re-explain things in different ways, until you feel confident with what you have been learning. So don’t be shy to tell me if you don’t understand something.
You can let me know at the beginning of a lesson if you want to work on your fluency or accuracy and we can decide together the best way for me to give you feedback.
Am I the right tutor for you?
Everyone has their strengths and weaknesses. I am the same. My teaching strengths are developing speaking confidence, teaching vocabulary and pronunciation; so if you would like help with your conversational English, I can help it to be both functional and to sound natural. I can teach basic grammar and explain things using examples. But if you want to master your grammar, I think another teacher could do this better.
Things to consider for our lessons:
Translation devices are optional. They can help when working on your vocabulary, because many words have more than one meaning. They are very useful for learning about words that name or describe things we can’t see or feel and for more advanced lessons.
