Hello! Nice to meet you!
My name is Laura, you can call me ローラ. I’m from Vietnam and currently living in Japan with my family.

My English Journey

When I was a child, I actually hated English! My mom hired a private tutor who only taught me “to be” verbs (am, is, are), and I couldn’t understand them at all. I even thought: “Is English just these three words?” If back then I had been able to enjoy English songs, cartoons, or movies, maybe I would have loved English earlier.

Things changed in junior high school—I started getting good grades in English, and since I wasn’t very strong in science subjects, English became my favorite. Later in university, I had a wonderful teacher whose clear pronunciation influenced me a lot, and I finally learned to pronounce words correctly.

After graduation, I studied abroad in Australia. At first, I struggled a lot with listening, especially because of the many different accents, including Indian English. But after 3 months of listening, practicing, and adapting, I could finally understand and communicate naturally. Looking back, I realized that to speak English well, listening is the key. Watching movies, listening to real conversations, and training your ears are the first steps. Then speaking will naturally become easier because you already know how the words should sound.

But that doesn’t mean grammar can be ignored or learned superficially. In my case, because I had built a solid grammar foundation during high school and university, I was able to adapt to English much faster when I moved to Australia. Grammar gave me the confidence to form correct sentences, while listening helped me sound natural.

My Teaching Style
Because of my own journey, I know how frustrating it can be to learn English in the “wrong way.” That’s why in my lessons, I focus on fun, real communication. I use music, movies, daily topics, and interactive speaking practice to help students enjoy learning. I encourage mistakes as a natural part of progress, and I give practical tips on listening, pronunciation, and grammar.

Also, since I can communicate in basic Japanese, I can support beginners and help you feel less nervous if speaking only English feels overwhelming.

My Message to You
