Happy Valentine's Day!
Did you know that we celebrate Valentine's Day a little differently in the UK? When I lived in Japan, I was surprised that on Valentine's Day (February 14th), only the girl is supposed to give chocolate and cards to the boy - girls don't receive any gifts in return. I thought this was very unfair until I learned about White Day a month later!
But in the UK, we don't have White Day. We only celebrate Valentine's Day when, traditionally, the girl is supposed to receive the presents! Although now, we often exchange gifts equally (something my boyfriend is happy about!)
Honestly, Valentine's Day isn't my favourite holiday but it can be a lot of fun! Usually, I'll make a cute card or bake some small cakes for my boyfriend. If I'm single, I like to hang out with my friends or I'll take myself on a date to a cafe or an interesting museum.
Do you celebrate Valentine's Day? What do you like to do?
Unfair - not equal
Traditionally - something done ritually over many years
Single - not in a relationship/ not married
Hang out - spend time with casually
Date - meet with someone romantically
