New York Renaissance Faire | Things to do in New York

Hello Cafetalk Community,

How are you? I hear it is very hot in many parts of Asia. Here, in Canada, it's quite hot too believe it or not. I thought it was going to be a cool summer before I moved to Canada, but it gets quite hot like everywhere else.

[Today's Topic: "What is my favorite festival?"]

I've always loved the annual "Renaissance Faire" that tours throughout Southern California every summer. As with many other events and activities, I'm sure it was called off this summer due to the coronavirus.
Let's start with the definition of the Renaissance. Of course, Leonardo Da Vinci is the most prolific and versatile Renaissance man. People in those days were interested in humanity, science, mathematics, engineering, art, music, philosophy, and other expertise.

Definition of Renaissance
1. the transitional movement in Europe between medieval and modern times beginning in the 14th century in Italy, lasting into the 17th century, and marked by a humanistic revival of classical influence expressed in a flowering of the arts and literature and by the beginnings of modern science

What's at the fair?

If you like food, this is the place to go! In the tradition of medieval British food, there are huge turkey drumsticks, artichoke hearts, bangers (or sausage), etc. In regards to spirits, they have a light and dark ale. If you give them a tip, they will honor you by ringing a bell at the tavern.
I especially like the many mystical jewelry, as well as medieval dragons and goblets. There are also elaborately carved cutting boards made of wood. If you like to journal, they had the most beautiful leather-bound, hand-made diary notebooks. In addition, there are exquisite bottles to hold essential oils and diffusers!
I believe the most exciting part that gets you engaged is the costumes. The fun is to wear a costume yourself, as well as looking at everyone else's costumes. If you didn't arrive at the fair dressed-up, there are places where you can rent medieval outfits, hats, and accessories.
Once you enter this enchanted land, not only do you feel you are transported to the Renaissance era, you will be surrounded with a pleasurable experience. The fair is usually held in a wide-open space filled with acting troupes, jugglers, performers, acrobats, and Shakespeare shows all over the fairgrounds.
If you have a chance to go to a Renaissance Pleasure Fair in California or any other state in the US, I guarantee a fun time for everyone!

[*Note:] Of course, it's not for everyone! You have to be willing to suspend your disbelief and use your imagination. If you don't like to get dressed-up or participate in a make-believe land that is based on history, this event is not for you.
Since the event tends to happen in the middle of summer, some of the Renaissance Fair participants get over-heated from the hot, summer sun.
Of course, who knows when this terrible situation with the coronavirus will be over. I hope you can travel soon to the Renaissance Fair or anywhere else you've been wanting to go!
Thank you for reading my tutor's column! I hope to see you there at the Renaissance Pleasure Fair!
Warmest regards,

Lady Ayame
