生徒さんから「英語でご飯を少しは何て言ったらいい？」と聞かれました。シンプルな回答は「a little rice」です。実例を見ましょう。
I bought a little rice at the store. ｜ お店で少しのご飯を買いました。Jack would like a little rice to eat. ｜ Jackはご飯を少し食べたいです。Do you have a little rice? ｜ ご飯少しありますか
上記3文は「ご飯を少量」と言うのために「a little rice」を使いました。では、他に使える単語は？「 Some rice」でも大丈夫です。
I bought some rice at the store. ｜ お店で少しのご飯を買いました。Jack would like some rice to eat. ｜ Jackがご飯を少し食べたいです。Do you have some rice? ｜ ご飯少しありますか？
そして、生徒さんから「レストランではどう使う？」と聞かれました。状況によって答えが変わってくるので、見てみましょう。もし、サイド料理として注文する時は「a little rice」と「 some rice」で大丈夫です。
I would like a little rice, please. ｜ ご飯を少しください。I would like some rice, please. ｜ ご飯を少しください。
サイドオーダーとしてのご飯を頼むのならば、「 a small side order of rice」が良いです。
I would like a small side order of rice. ｜ ご飯を少しください。
定食などを注文する場合のご飯の量を少なくしたい時は、注文をする際に一緒に伝えるのが良いでしょう。
I would like Salmon and Wild Rice, but with less rice. ｜ 「 Salmon and Wild Rice」と ご飯を少しにしてください。I would like a small portion of rice for the Salmon and Wild Rice. ｜ 「 Salmon and Wild Rice」とご飯を少しにしてください。
この時は 「a little」と「some」より「less rice」or「a small portion」がよいでしょう。また、レストランでは「 go easy on」も便利です。
For the Salmon and Wild Rice, please go easy on the rice. ｜ 「 Salmon and Wild Rice」 とご飯を少しにしてください。

I was recently asked how to say ‘少しご飯’in English. A simple answer to this is ‘a little rice’. Let’s look at some examples.
I bought a little rice at the store.Jack would like a little rice to eat.Do you have a little rice?
In these sentences ‘a little rice’ is used to talk about a small amount of rice. ‘Some rice’ is also useful and can be used in these sentences.
I bought some rice at the store.Jack would like some rice to eat.Do you have some rice?
The conversation carried further into how to use it at a restaurant. In order to answer that though, we need context. If one is asking for a separate serving of rice, like a side order, one can continue to use ‘a little rice’ or ‘some rice’.
I would like a little rice, please.I would like some rice, please.
If one wishes to be very specific, one can also use ‘a small side order of rice’.
I would like a small side order of rice.
If one is asking for a smaller portion of rice in in the main dish, it is best to be sure to link the request to the main dish.
I would like Salmon and Wild Rice, but with less rice.I would like a small portion of rice for the Salmon and Wild Rice.
In this situation, ‘a little’ and ‘some’ aren’t as clear in their meaning as ‘less’ or ‘a small portion’. One last option is to use the phrase ‘go easy on’ which is often used at restaurants.
For the Salmon and Wild Rice, please go easy on the rice.
