Virtual travel experiences from the comfort of home

Weekly Topic: My slightly unique hobbies

Jenni Scotland

I'm an avid traveller, I love to visit new places, any new places.

Islands, cities, towns, villages, countries. I usually take my family with me and they love it too, especially my daughter.

However, in the midst of the current pandemic, we're in lockdown in Scotland at the moment, I haven't been able to get out and about as much as I'd like to.  Weekends have been especially hard, so, what to do?

To brighten up the weekends we decided to choose a different country every week and spend part of the weekend discovering it virtually with the help of You Tube, Netflix and of course Google.  We also try to incorporate some of the food and drink popular in that country if we can.

So far we've chosen countries we don't know much about, countries we maybe haven't visited. We've explored Denmark, Norway and Finland.  Next weekend we've chosen Costa Rica!

With Denmark, we started the day with some Danish pastries and coffee while listening to some Danish pop music, we also browsed some interesting facts about the country. Next we enjoyed a video tour of Copenhagen followed by a beginners Danish language lesson.  Finally we watched a wonderful documentary about the Lego House on Netflix.

Every week I'm learning something I didn't know before while enjoying wonderful scenery, culture and music. It's so much fun! Although this is a lockdown hobby I think I'll probably continue once I'm free to go wherever I want once more.

I'd love to hear all about your hobby.
