Crazy And Funny Facts You Should Know

Lyston G.

Dear, Readers.

It is an honor to be in your esteemed company. I hope you are all doing excellent.

It was April Fools Day yesterday, and a lot of pranks were played on people around me.

More pranks also appeared on SNS. Some were pretty funny.

It is the height of summer. This is the last stretch. It is hot in southern Thailand as you might expect at this time of the year. I am looking forward to the early rains that arrive in May.

Well, today, I have a fun shocker for you. The fun fact for today will take us to Africa, my home.

I will talk about the Sahara Desert today. You all know arid desert conditions. They are dry and hot.

But here is a surprise! Did you know that;

The Sahara Desert is an extremely hot and arid region.  An area of about 3,600,000 square miles (9,200,000 square kilometers), the desert is about the size of the United States and stretches across much of North Africa.

Rainfall is rare, and snowfall is even rarer. Well, the impossible happened in 2018 and the Sahara Desert was covered in a blanket of white snow.

There have been three recorded episodes of significant snowfall.  The first was recorded in 1979, the second in December of 2016, and the third most recently on January 7, 2018.

On January 8, 2018, about 10 to 30 centimeters (4 to 12 inches) of snow covered the desert higher elevations above 1000 meters. The snow lasted for less than a day thanks to warming temperatures.

Although temperatures drop to freezing at night, the lack of moisture makes it almost impossible to produce any snow. But who knows, you might be lucky enough to see it on your next trip to the Sahara!

I never considered the possibility of snow falling in the Sahara. I am thrilled to share this little gem. I hope you will have fun reading it. You can even surprise your friends.

I will back with more fun facts to share. Stay tuned. See you soon.
