真實發生的笑話 (本当の冗談)

大家好！底下的對話雖然是一則老笑話，但卻是真實發生（zhēn shí fā shēng）在我身上好幾次。

A new friend asked, "Where are you from?"
（你從哪裡來的？）
I answered, "I'm from Taiwan."
（我從台灣來的。）

The new friend continued to say, "Oh! I know. People there are so nice!"
（喔！我知道，那邊的人很好！）
I replied, "Thanks! Have you ever been there?"
（謝謝！你去過嗎？）

Then he answered, "no... but I've heard about it and food is very good there, right?"
（沒有，但是我聽說過，而且那邊的食物很好吃對吧？）
I answered, "Yeah! And it is inexpensive, but some food might be weird to foreigners."
（是的，而且不貴，但是有些食物對外國人來說可能很奇怪。）

He was excited to say further, "And it is also fun to ride an elephant, isn't it?"
（而且騎大象很好玩吧？)
After a slight hesitation, I replied, "Well, maybe you mean in Thailand, not Taiwan?"
（啊...你說的可能是在泰國吧？不是台灣？）

Then he smiled and said, "......oh Taiwan is not Thailand?"
（喔，台灣táiwān 不是泰國tàiguó 嗎？）
I smiled...
（笑）
