How can I Improve my English by Reading the News?

Suja

Choose articles that interest you

Your interest may lie in lifestyle, politics, sports, global or home news. Whatever your interest, choose something that you find enjoyable to read.

Keep a personal notebook to jot down new vocabulary

Taking notes from your reading can be useful when you refer to these in future.

Highlighting words that are important can help you remember them better.

Take note of new vocabulary or phrases and group them according to their categories – such as those that relate to business news, or politics or sports.

You can even consider cutting the section of the article you have read to attach or paste into your personal notebook.

Identify the main points of the article

Identify the main points of the article create a summary of the article in a short paragraph.

Alternatively, if you have been reading the news for a long time, why not consider writing your reflections on the piece of news you just read.

Discuss the article with a teacher

Discussing the article you read with a teacher or another native English speaker can help you gain confidence in speaking as well as vocabulary. It can also help you formulate your opinions in English better, further enhancing your confidence.
