Studying Grammar

Suja

Grammar is needed to string words into sentences. The use of correct grammar will ensure that you are understood clearly and correctly by your listeners. Many situations might also require you to speak and write English well and to a high standard. a higher level of proficiency will be anticipated for work interviews or if you're aiming to move abroad for work or studies.

How to work on your grammar?
Start by creating a specific list of the problems you currently face with grammar. Some examples of your issues could be expressed as follows:

"I often apply conjunctions incorrectly."

"I frequently make errors in my subject/verb agreement."

"I want to learn how to apply commas and other punctuation appropriately."

"How can I apply an apostrophe correctly?"

"I often get my word order mixed up when I ask a question."

"I do not know when to apply the present perfect and past perfect tense."

"I have difficulty switching tenses when I talk about the present, past or future."

"I’d like to use the passive voice correctly"

It may be important to understand grammar rules in order to avoid making the current mistakes you continue to make.

  • Convey the problems you face with grammar to your tutor so that they can help you overcome specific issues.
  • Practice with exercise drills and construct as many different sentences related to the specific issues you encounter in grammar. You might even need a tutor’s guidance for this.
  • Use graded readers – Reading graded readers can help a second language learner as the language in such readers is more simplified.

  • Make Grammar more Delightful with penmanship practice!- Put your pen to paper and get writing! Writing a diary daily and having your diary vetted by a tutor can help you overcome repeated errors in constructing grammatically incorrect sentence structures and also helps you understand where you went wrong.
