中国語の学習者がよく犯す間違いの一つ：你好
中国語の学習者に教えた後、よく見られる共通の問題は、「你好」と挨拶することです。
「你好」とは、外国語に直接翻訳するのが少し難しい挨拶です。例えば英語や日本語の場合、もっとも近いのは「お元気ですか」や「Are you alright」かもしれません。しかし、これらの文はどちらも質問文であり、日本語や英語の母語話者でも、これらの文を挨拶に使うことは
ほとんどありません。
「你好」は台湾の文化の中で、初めて会う人に対して使われることがほとんどで、一人に対してのみ使います。二人以上の場合は、「大家好」または「你們好」と言うべきです。他の場合では、「嗨」や「早」といった短い挨拶か、「最近怎麼樣？」といった表現が一般的です。
以前の授業では、前の先生が言わなかったのか、本当に皆がそう教えられているのか、全ての学生が授業に来るたびに私に「你好」と言ってきて、私も「你好」と返すしかなかったです。しかし、台湾人は実際にはそうは言いません。学生が私に挨拶すること以外、普段私がいつ「你好」と言うか思い出せません。中国人が友達に会ったときも、毎回「你好」と言うわけではありません。
One common mistake made by Mandarin learners: Saying "你好" (nǐ hǎo)
After teaching Mandarin to several learners, I've noticed a common issue: using "你好" (nǐ hǎo) as a greeting.
"你好" (nǐ hǎo) is a greeting that's a bit difficult to translate directly into other languages. For example, in English or Japanese, the closest equivalents might be "お元気ですか" (o-genki desu ka) or "Are you alright?" However, both of these are questions, and native speakers of Japanese or English typically wouldn't use them as greetings.
In Taiwanese culture, the greeting "你好" (nǐ hǎo) is almost exclusively used when meeting someone for the first time and is intended for just one person. If greeting two or more people, the appropriate expression is "大家好" or "你們好".
In other situations, shorter greetings like "嗨" (hāi) or "早" (zǎo), or expressions like "最近怎麼樣？" (zuìjìn zěnme yàng?) are more common.
During previous classes, I didn't know if it was because the previous teachers didn't mention it or if it's genuinely how everyone teaches, but every student would greet me with "你好" (nǐ hǎo) when they came to class, and I could only respond with "你好" (nǐ hǎo). However, Taiwanese people don't actually say it like that. Besides when students greet me, I can't recall when I would normally say "你好" (nǐ hǎo). Similarly, Chinese people don't greet their friends with "你好" (nǐ hǎo) every time they meet.
