3 Funny Mistakes My Students Made in English (And How We Laughed & Learned)

Rhei

Learning English doesn't always have to be serious — in fact, some of the best lessons come from funny mistakes! Here are three moments from my students that made us laugh and learn at the same time:

1. "I'm boring."
One student wanted to say “I’m bored,” but instead said “I’m boring.” We laughed and quickly learned the difference: “bored” is how you feel, while “boring” is what makes others feel that way!

2. "I cook myself."
One student once told me this in our 1-to-1 class, and I almost laughed out loud. Of course, I knew they meant “I cook by myself” or “I cook for myself.” We both laughed and turned it into a mini-lesson on how just one small word can completely change the meaning of a sentence!

3.  “I’m hot.”
During summer, one student said this in class. The meaning was clear — but in English, it can sound a little different! We talked about how to say “I feel hot” or “It’s hot today” instead.

The best part? These mistakes didn’t make students feel embarrassed. Instead, they turned into funny, unforgettable lessons. That's what learning English should feel like — fun, natural, and full of “aha!” moments.

If you want to learn English in a way where mistakes are welcome (and even funny!), come join my class. Let's laugh, learn, and grow together!
