What's Up?! American Slang

2017年1月21日

Hey everyone, Brian here! I love slang! I love learning slang in other languages. So every Saturday is slang Saturday for me and I hope you enjoy. I wanted to share some common American slang with all of you. I'm sure you have heard of "what's up" or just "sup" so I am going to give you a few more phrases that have the same meaning.

What's up and sup, for those who don't know, means the same as "what are you doing" or "what is new." Here is an example: Hey, what's up Peter? Peter: Nothing much, I'm just watching T.V.

Here are a few more phrases that mean the same thing:

What up?

How's it goin? (we don't say the -ing sound)

How ya doin? (ya is you)

What's happening? Some people say "what's happenin." (no -ing sound again).

An example for using these words and a reply is:

A: Hey, how's it goin?

B: Pretty good. I am just working a lot lately. You?

A: Same here. I've (I have) been really busy lately too.

B: That's good to hear. The money is nice.

Got it? Practice with your friends! I hope you enjoyed learning these English slang phrases and I will post more next Saturday. Have a great weekend!
