Accept or Except??

ACCEPT is a verb meaning to receive something, admit something, regard something as true, or to agree to something.

Some synonyms of ACCEPT are: receive, welcome, take, gain, assume, manage, welcome, embrace, etc.

1. The group never ACCEPTED him as one of their own.

2. I hope she ACCEPTS my gift!!

3. Will you ACCEPT my offer??

EXCEPT can be used as a preposition that means 'excluding', a conjunction meaning 'other than' or 'if not for the fact', or uncommonly as a verb meaning 'to leave out, exclude'.

Some synonyms of EXCEPT are: excluding, but, besides, save, apart from, omit, leave out, disregard, etc. 

1. He bought a gift for everyone EXCEPT me.

2. I would help you, EXCEPT I'm too busy. 

3. Children are EXCEPTED from these rules.
