It's Easter Time

2014年4月24日

This year on April 20th, Easter took place.  This is a popular Western Holiday.  It is the second most important Christian holiday as it honors the time when Christ came back after he died.

At the same time the festival has traditions that date back to the Roman Empire.  In Rome it used to be a spring holiday.  That is why Easter changes every year.  It is always the first Sunday after the first full moon after the spring equinox.

The biggest traditions are the Easter Bunny and Easter Eggs.  The night before Easter children make boiled eggs and then color them.  The believe the Easter Bunny comes into the house and hides the eggs.  In truth it is the parents who hide the eggs.  In the morning after they awake they go search for the hidden eggs.  These days candy eggs are also popular.

At night people eat a big dinner.  It is a very interesting Western tradition.  In my lesson Festivals of America or Festivals of the world, we can talk more about this holiday.  I look forward to seeing you there.
