こんにちは！いつも楽しいレッスンがモットーのAkkoです。
今回は「～かもしれない」と訳されるmay, mightのちょっとしたニュアンスの違いをご紹介します(*ˊ˘ˋ*)｡♪:*°
テクニカルな違いで言うと、
mayの方が可能性が高く、
mightの方が可能性が低くなる。
(※現在形での使い方)
He may come to the party.
彼はパーティーに来るかも知れません。
He might come to the party.
彼はパーティーに(もしかしたら)来るかも知れません。
He might come to the party...Let me check my phone...
彼来るかもしれへんしな～、携帯見よっと
メッセージなしか…
ポチポチ…
"Are you coming to the party?"
送信！
こんな感じです。
という訳で可能性で言えば、
may＞might
となる訳です。

May is used to express what is possible, factual, or could be factual.
可能性があるもの、事実である可能性がある。
Might carries with it less probability and applies to hypothetical and counterfactual situations.
仮説や仮想、事実ではないかもしれない場合。

確証がない場合は会話では、
mightを使うことが私は多いかなあ。
ちなみに、関西人が言う
「行けたら行くわ～」
は8割で来ません。←大阪人の私の主観。
行きたい気持ちは一応あんねんけど申し訳ないし、行けそうやったらその時は行くで。
という感じです。
という訳で I might go (if I can).

Meg, Thanks for your comments! Actually, I wrote about this topic because one of my students asked about the differences between these two. I think it's very 微妙 too. 会話だと両方使いますし微妙ですよね～。

Yes, there are many grammar rules, but they don't always make sentences sound natural, unfortunately.. :/

I think for possibility, there technically is a slight difference.. but in actuality we use "may" and "might" pretty interchangeably! :)
