Lesson Objectives:
  1. Establish a positive repertoire between the student and teacher through standard introductory questions.
  2. Introduce habitual greetings, designations and phrases commonly used by varying native English speakers (focus: dictation, pronunciation, comprehension and cadence).
  3. Progress discussion into more personal questions regarding interests and/or hobbies.
  4. Present the design of the "mind-map," or "verbal brainstorming" exercise.
  5. Find a subject/topic/idea of mutual interest.
  6. Assign a small research assignment (read one article) based on the aforementioned topic of agreeance, including the task of asking the 5W1H questions (Who? When?...How?) regarding the topic.
Lesson Goals:
  • Establish a formal relationship with the student.
  • Integrate the perspective of the international context of English language usage.
  • Reach beyond initial formalities into the interest of the student as well as sharing my own.
  • Demonstrate the utility of a free-flowing conversational exercise in the form of the "mind-map."
  • Find commonalities between the student and myself.
  • Form a mutual correspondence on a potentially new topic for each of us to explore with a platform for the following lesson.
