Expressions for Disagreeing

How to Politely Disagree in English

Description

At school or at work, with friends, classmates or colleagues, in a business meeting or discussion with your professor, sometimes it’s necessary to disagree or say no.

That is perfectly fine.  In English-speaking culture, it is important to share your opinion and express your ideas. But how should you do that in English – politely?

With this lesson, you’ll learn the best English phrases you can use to show you disagree in both formal and informal situations without offending anyone. These expressions will also help you learn how to share your opinion.

We'll talk about some issues and let's see which side you're on.  How about these:

  • Video Games are a waste of time.
  • Countries need to legalize medical marihuana.
  • Smartphones have made our lives easier.
  • Marriage is outdated.
  • Military service must be obligatory.
If you disagree with any of the above statements, you can explicitly express your disagreement and still sound polite.

Come to the class, you will learn how.
