This is the perfect starting point! If you've never spoken a word of Afrikaans, this lesson is for you. We'll start with the building blocks of the language: the alphabet and key sounds. By the end, you'll be able to pronounce words and use a few basic phrases with confidence.

In this 45-minute foundational lesson, you will:

  • Learn the pronunciation of the Afrikaans alphabet, with a focus on sounds that are different from English.

  • Practice simple sounds and word combinations.

  • Learn the very first words and expressions you need, such as “ja” (yes), “nee” (no), and “dankie” (thank you).

  • Engage in a relaxed, no-pressure environment designed for a first-time language learner.
