Practice a Presentation in English
You may be a perfectly good or even great presenter in your native language. The challenge for many people is doing the same presentation in English
Подробности урока
The class is aimed at interemdiate or advanced students who need to do presentations in English, either face to face or online. My assumption is that you already know how to do presentations in your native language, so you don't need coaching on things like the proper way to stand, tone of voice or other basic skills. You have an English presentation coming up and you want it to be great. The class proceeds in 6 steps.
1. If possible, the student supplies the teacher with a copy of the presentation in advance of the lesson for the teacher to make notes.
2. At the beginning of the lesson, the student delivers the presentation (up to 20 minutes of the total length). The teacher will not interrupt. They will make notes as if they are an attendee at a real presentation for discussion at the end
4. This is followed by a slide by slide discussion of what worked well and what did not, changes that could be made, improving slide headlines and content etc. The teacher will make comments about the students presentation style, pronunciation or grammar mistakes
5. Corrections - if there is time, corrections will be made to the presentation during the lesson
6. Homework - the student delivers the real presentation and if possible provides feedback to the teacher on how it went
The benefits of this class are as follows:
1. It is a structured approach where the student can think about the presentation before the lesson and come prepared
2. The student can potentially learn new vocabulary and have their pronunciation or grammar corrected
3. The student can gain confidence in presenting in English
4. The lesson can be repeated with different presentations
My teaching style is calm, friendly and non-judgemental but I am prepared to challenge a student to go further, particularly if the topic requires the student to have an opinion
