Hello, my name's Tom and I've been teaching English overseas for the past
10 years.
My focus in English tuiton is helping students to feel relaxed and comfortable speaking in English. We're not looking for perfection from the start, just to ability to get across your ideas in a safe and friendly environment. My biggest strength is my range of teaching experience: from teaching absolute beginners to helping coversation pros achieve their academic dreams.
As an experienced teacher at high school level we can also explore your reading and writing skills, which can be of use for those who are interested in further education, or just those with a passion for reading in English.
Learning with me you can expect to boost your conversational confidence in an open environment where you are free to ask questions and explore a range of ideas. I love talking with students about a range of topics from traveling to news, culture and society. Why not explore these topics with me!
A little more about me:
- Japan: My journey started in Japan, where I taught students of all ages- both face-to-face and online. I loved learning about the culture and people of Japan. I was a lead teacher at a business school in Osaka and classroom teacher at an Eikaiwa in Hyogo, where I taught business English, conversational English, TOEIC, EIKEN, IELTS, TOEFL, as well as writing and presentation skills to all levels of Japanese students.

United Kingdom: After that I returned to the UK to complete my teaching certification. Building upon my BA in English from the University of Nottinngham I completed a Post Graduate degree in Education from John Moores University in Liverpool. As part of my triaining I worked full time at schools in Northern England helping junior high and high school students prepare for their exams while simultaneously boosting their knowledge and writing skills. This qualification has given me many new skills and insights as a teacher.

Middle East: Since then I've been teaching English here in the Middle East. I am currently working full time in a British International School where I am teaching English to students with a wide variety of nationalities. In my lessons I cover both Literature and Language; teaching everything from Shakespeare to Greek Mythology via creative writing and poetry. I've also started a Manga Society to encourage my students to read through the art and imagination of Japanese comic books.
In my free time I love to read, and explore nature: my favourite author is Haruki Murakami (I love all his books; especially Norweigan Wood). My love for Japan continues through cinema where I am an avid fan of the creations of Miyazaki and the Studio Ghibli team. I'm also a big follower of football (soccer) and a life-long supporter of Manchester United. Many of my students have wished they could join me at Old Trafford one day!

I look forward to getting to know you and helping you to improve your confidence in English!
