Why learn with me

  • I’ve taught over 500 students at a Japanese language school. I taught beginner to pre-intermediate levels, with students from the USA, Canada, Nepal, Myanmar, and China. I know the points where learners from different countries and backgrounds tend to get stuck.
  • I have experience working in Japanese companies. At Square Enix, I worked as a game designer and motion designer on the Final Fantasy series, and I was also in charge of planning and production management for its cinematics. I later worked in PR, HR, and a pharmaceutical group. I can teach you the workplace Japanese that textbooks don’t cover.
  • I’ve been a language learner too. I studied at the University of Toronto (OISE) in Canada and earned a master’s degree in sociology at Oxford in the UK. I understand how hard it is to learn in a second language.
  • Supporting international students was my job. At Waseda University, I was in charge of admissions, visas, program management, and daily-life support for international students.
  • I’ve completed a 420-hour Japanese-language teacher training course.
  • I do reading aloud and audio editing. I listen closely to details such as rhythm and breathing in your speech, and give you specific feedback.

Lesson content

  1. Japanese for work: Business conversation, keigo, emails, meetings, and job interview preparation. Having served as an interviewer for hiring, I can tell you what Japanese companies actually look for.
  2. Pronunciation and reading aloud: We’ll polish your accent, rhythm, and intonation, using materials such as literary works.
  3. JLPT and textbook lessons: Minna no Nihongo, Daichi, Marugoto, Try!, Nihongo So-matome, Chukyu e Ikou, and more. Requests for your own materials are welcome.
  4. Pop culture and free talk: Games, anime, manga, and figures. As a former game developer, I’ll enjoy exploring the nuance of lines from your favorite works with you.

How lessons work
Lessons are held by video call, so I can see your mouth movements and share my screen. Your camera can be on or off, whichever you prefer.

ビデオ通話で行います（口の形の確認や画面共有のため）。生徒さんのカメラはON・OFFどちらでも構いません。初級の方には英語でのサポートも可能です。
