Matthew Doyle Tutor Profile
This tutor is currently on leave.
My name is Matt Doyle. I'm originally from Boston MA, USA. I graduated from Framingham State University. I have been living in Japan for 30yrs in Himeji, Hyogo Japan. I'm 55yrs old. I have been in the same house since coming to Japan. I'm married to a Japanese woman and we have three children. All of my children went to school in Japan through high school and then they attended university in the USA.
I enjoy living in Japan. I appreciate the differences in Japanese and Western cultures which strongly influence language usage and structure. I love sharing these differences with my students to help them to communicate more effectively. I have a lot of experience teaching all levels of Japanese learners of English. To keep lessons fun and interesting, I create content to suit the students' interests and English proficiency. I always use simple English or Japanese if necessary, to fully explain topics and never expect students to understand vocabulary or concepts without a full explanation. My goal is to keep students coming back to my lessons by making them fun, informative, and as interesting as possible.
I came to Japan working for a large, Swiss-based, international corporation headquartered in Kobe, I worked for them for several years. My main duties were proofreading and report updates in English for internal communications with the Swiss headquarters, Asian, European and American subsidiaries. I also held seminars and taught courses on business English, telephony, business writing, and negotiation skills. I had to retire from that company after the Kobe earthquake because the headquarters moved to Tokyo, as I had just had twin daughters, I decided not to move to Tokyo.
I opened my own English school, I taught ESL, School preparatory, and adult free conversation classes. I also taught business English at several companies.
My hobbies are boating, scuba diving, bicycling and reading.
