I first taught English in Japan in 1970, and I enjoyed it very much. I came back around 1972 and taught for 2 years, including one year part-time at Osaka Jogakuin University.
I have taught for about 20 or 25 years. Most of the teaching was part time, and I taught in many schools. I did a lot of substitute teaching and I learned about teaching materials and methods from those teachers. I have a California teaching credential.
I graduated from the University of California, Berkeley, in 1967. I was a math major, and I studied Japanese for 3 semesters.
When I was young, I was fascinated by China and Japan, and I wanted to visit China, but that was not possible, so I spent the summer of 1965 in Japan. I stayed in youth hostels and enjoyed it very much. I really learned to speak Japanese that summer. I visited many beautiful gardens, such as Ritsurin Koen,
Around 1979, a lot of Vietnamese refugees were coming to America, so I started teaching them in Oakland, California, across the bay from San Francisco. I really enjoyed that.
I recently retired from a part-time teaching job at Hayward Adult School, near San Francisco. I would like to teach online.
