Teacher Leanda Tutor Profile

This tutor is currently on leave.

Hello Everyone!

My name is Leanda and I can't wait to meet you in class!!

I live on a tiny farm, very close the most southern point of Africa with my husband, 2 dogs and our old cat...it's very calm and beautiful here, but it gets VERY HOT in the summer!

My Education & Teaching Experience:

I have a Bachelor's Degree, majoring in Linguistics and English Literature and I am TESOL certified.

I have been a full-time online English teacher (Eikaiwa) for 2 years and in that time, I have taught more than 3500 lessons to adult students in Japan.

My Life Before Teaching:

I started my professional life as an International Fashion Model which allowed me to travel to many interesting places like London, New York, and the south of France to name a few.

After working as a model, I became an Office Manager and Head-Booker at some of Cape Town’s top fashion agencies, where my duties included building and managing relationships with international clients. I was also responsible for managing artists, negotiating contracts on their behalf, and mentoring and training them to be successful in the industry.

For a short time, I also ran my own home-industry business, making sweets and cakes and selling them to the public, while dressing up as Little Red Riding Hood.

And I have even lived on top of a mountain, in the middle of nowhere, in a 3.5 m x 7m wooden house for 12 months as part of a Sustainability Study with my husband.

My Hobbies and Interests:

Call me a SPONGE…I LOVE to learn new things and as a result, I have a very wide range of hobbies and interests.

Right now, my favourite hobby is learning Japanese and learning more about Japan and its culture…my husband and my biggest dream is visiting Japan one day, so I hope you will share your lives in Japan with me.

I am happy to talk about ANYTHING, including tough topics like current events, economics, sustainability and business, but if you don’t feel like being that serious, I am always happy to learn about your hobbies, interests and experiences.

I also enjoy reading, listening to music, cooking, baking, gardening, doing crochet (kagibari ami), going for long walks with my dogs and enjoying nature.

My Teaching Style & Philosophy:

In one word – MOTIVATIONAL!

I believe learning should be fun…if you look forward to your English lessons you will be motivated to do them every day.

Mastering a language is not a destination, it is a JOURNEY…and just like going on a trip…we sometimes get lost, we sometimes have difficulties, but it is these experiences we learn from the most.

So, join me for a journey into English…we’ll go on an amazing adventure, meet many new words, phrases, idioms and expressions along our route, learn new ways of navigating conversations…and we’ll have fun, every step of the way.

I look forward to meeting you!
