Hello everyone!

My name is Hereward - that’s an old English name, but if it’s too difficult for you then Dr. Tilton is fine as well. 

I was born in the UK, but I currently live on the Sunshine Coast in Australia - what a lovely place to be!

I have a Cambridge-certified CELTA qualification, and I've been teaching English to speakers of other languages since I was an undergraduate in Australia many years ago. Later, while I was studying in Germany, I taught English to workers at Siemens, as well as to NATO officers in preparation for their peacekeeping missions. My wife is Japanese, and most recently I have been teaching English to the children of her friends in Japan. 

Apart from teaching English grammar and conversational skills for beginners and intermediate learners, I can also help you with your academic English. I have a PhD in religious studies, and I've taught at leading European and Australian universities. During my time as a lecturer I successfully supervised PhD and MA students, and I proofread and edited submissions for leading academic journals. I've also written two books and numerous peer-reviewed articles of my own.

I'm gentle, patient, and highly motivated, so whatever your level of English might be, I'm committed to helping you realise your potential.

If you're not sure where to begin then the best place to start is my counseling lesson, which will help me to identify your strengths and weaknesses and work out a plan of action together with you.
