Hello, my name is Mami. I have over 25 years of experience in education. I am from Japan, where karate comes from, and been living in California for over 18 years. About 11 years ago my daughter and I began Shotokan karate. Since then, we’ve been consistently training 5 days a week. I am a 3rd Dan black belt now, competing at international level tournaments and have placed 2nd or 3rd in my division consecutively since 2014. For the past several years, I have taught karate and Spanish at preschools and elementary schools in California. In 2019, I opened my own dojo. Currently, I teach Japanese, English, and Spanish online and I was impressed by how effective and engaging online learning can be. This lockdown has taught me that I am able to teach students no matter the circumstances. The most exciting thing about teaching is the passion I can pass on to students from what I've learned, experienced, and expertised in for years. I am confident to teach you so many new things.
