Hello there.
My name is David Raath, but you can call me Dave. I am a South African musician and English teacher. I have taught English in China and played music in China, South Korea, Philippines and Maldives. I have also taught music in the USA.   


I really enjoy teaching and I’d like to have many conversations with you about music, travelling and English. I have taught music and English in my country, USA and in China. I am passionate and creative and would enjoy sharing my experience with you.

I am also a music teacher and can help any student become a better musician with some hard work and fun. I have taught guitar, bass guitar in South Africa and USA.

Anything you would like to know about music. 

I would enjoy teaching you all that I know and what I have experienced through the love of music, traveling and language. 

My education:
  • Diploma in Music - College of Performing Arts, Cape Town, 2013
  • CELTA (Certificate in English Language Training to Adults), CT, 2017 
  • TEFL (Teaching English as a Foreign Language), CT, 2020.
My Experience: 

I started performing in Cape Town as a professional musician since 2011. I have performed with many artists and travelled all over my home country of South Africa. I have also travelled to and performed in Namibia and Zimbabwe. I taught music Cape Town in 2014 & 2015. 
 
In 2016, I taught music in the USA for 3 months. I came back to South Africa and played music for a well known singer/songwriter for a year. 
 
In 2017, I completed my CELTA qualification. I had the option to teach English in Vietnam or play music professionally in South Korea. I chose to travel to SK. 
 
In 2018, I taught English to private students while playing music professionally at the Grand Hyatt Hotel. I continued to play at the Grand Hyatt Hotel in South Korea and Philippines in 2019.
 
In 2020, I played at the One & Only Hotel in the Maldives before coming back home to South Africa.

I have a great passion for teaching music and English. I enjoy helping students grow in their talents and encourage them to be better people. I am a lively and enthusiastic teacher. I am proud of all my students and enjoy helping anyone achieve success.
