5/5「こどもの日」に食べるもの♪

明日は、５月５日（ごがついつか）、
日本は「子どもの日」という祝日（しゅくじつ）です。

Tomorrow is May 5, a national holiday in Japan called Children's Day.

５月５日：こどもの人格（じんかく）を重（おも）んじ、
こどもの幸福（こうふく）をはかるとともに、
母（はは）に感謝（かんしゃ）する。
We respect children's character, strive for their well-being, and are grateful to their mothers.

５月５日は、「端午の節句（たんごのせっく）」とも　言われています。
「端午」→月の端（はじめ）の　午（うま）の日　という意味です。

午は、午前・午後（ごぜん・ごご）の「ご」とも読みます。
午（ご）という音（おと）と、五（ご）の音が　同じなので、５月５日になった、と言われています。
＊さまざまな言い伝えがあります。

「節句」→四季（しき）や　季節（きせつ）を　祝う　伝統行事（でんとうぎょうじ）という　意味が　あります。
People call the festival Tango-no-sekku, May 5.
The word “Tango” means day of the noon at the first of the month.

“Sekku” means a traditional event to celebrate the four seasons.

５月５日の　端午の節句＜子どもの日＞には、ちまき　や　柏餅（かしわもち）を　食べて、厄を　払って、子どもの　成長や　五穀豊穣（ごこくほうじょう）を　願ってきた　伝統が　あります。
We eat Chimaki and Kasiwamochi.　(Japanese sweets)

▼ちまき
ちまきは、もち米（ごめ）で　作られた　お団子（だんご）の　ひとつで、竹の葉で　包（つつ）まれて　います。中国から　伝わった　ものです。
Chimaki is a kind of steamed rice dumpling (rice cake) and it is wrapped in bamboo leaves.

▼柏餅
柏餅は、柏（かし）の葉に　包まれた　もち米で　できた　お餅（もち）に　あんこが　挟（はさ）まれた　和菓子です。柏の葉は　新しい葉が　出ないと　古い葉が　落ちません。跡継ぎ（あとつぎ）が　絶（た）えないように　という願いが　込められた　縁起（えんぎ）の良い　和菓子です。
It is rice cake with red bean jam fillings wrapped in oak leaves.
The old leaves of the oak tree do not fall off until new leaves appear. It is an auspicious Japanese confectionery to ensure that successors will never cease to follow in its footsteps.
