10 Japanese Phrases to Describe Hay Fever Symptoms

Mar 9, 2019

Konnichiwa All! I hope you are well.

It has been nice weather here in Lyon and it feels like spring is just around the corner.

Beautiful weather, blue sky, flowers blooming – there are many positive things in spring, but there is one thing that a lot of people suffer from every year around this period of time, which is… hay fever. It’s called 花粉症 kafunshō in Japanese, and I heard that many Japanese people including my family members and friends started having some symptoms already.

So today, we will learn the kafunshō-related phrases so that you can express your suffering in Japanese, if you don’t have it (like me) then… you (we) are lucky.

|watashiwa kafunshō des.|I have hay fever.

|mega kayui des.|My eyes are itchy.

|hanaga muzumuzu shimas.|I have a tickle in my nose.

|hanamiz ga tomari masen.|My runny nose doesn’t stop.

|hanaga tsumatte ikiga dekimasen.|I can’t breathe because of a stuffy nose.

|maitoshi haruni naruto tsurai des.|I suffer every spring.

|kafunshō ga tsurai des.|I’m suffering from hay fever.

|kushami ga tomari masen.|I can’t stop sneezing.

|kafun ga hidoi des.|There is so much pollen (that is suffering me).

花粉が酷くて死にそうです!|kafun ga hidokute shinisō des!|The pollen is too much and it’s killing me!

That's all for today. Please check out my blog, too! See you next time.
