Today my friends and I tried a new restaurant in town. It is a Hawaiian style BBQ shack. It is small and family owned. Today only one person was working there. We talked for a long time. I was happy to be able to make a connection with one of the owners.
The food was so delicious! I love to cook and I often make BBQ items for my family. The spices that they used in their BBQ sauce were very different from the typical American style BBQ! It was so spicy and tangy. If I had to guess, I think that they used the spice Americans call "Chinese 5 Spice" in their sauces. "Chinese 5 Spice" is a powder blend of cinnamon, cloves, fennel, star anise, and Szechwan peppercorns. You can buy it premade in most grocery stores in the US. Now I want to visit Hawaii! I have never been to Hawaii, but I think that their beaches are beautiful and their food is super tasty!
How about you? Have you ever eaten Hawaiian style BBQ before?
