Today I’ll show you a new sightseeing spot in Sendai.

Yuzuru Hanyu, who won two times in succession in the Olympic Winter Games. His new monument was erected on April 29th in front of International Center Station of Subway Tozai Line.

The station is located about 5 minutes away from Sendai Station. There is too a monument of Shizuka Arakawa, a gold medalist in 2006 Torino Olympic Game.

Sendai is regarded as the birthplace of figure skating in Japan. This is Goshiki-numa, a part of moats of Sendai Castle. A missionary taught skating to students here around 1900 for the first time.

Let’s go on to the site of Sendai Castle. We have no castle building now but this is the most famous place in Sendai. It is on a mountain. We go up along a promenade through the forest...go up and go last arrive there. It is a place like Wartburg Castle in Germany.

We can have a panoramic view of the city from the place. It is possible to access there by bus or car but I recommend to you to go on foot if you are confident with your physical strength. Because it is nice to walk through the forest and we can realize that the castle was built on an amazing, great place. It is a hard exercise though....

This is a subway! Just before International Center Station, Tozai Line appears on the ground for a while and crosses Hirose-River. After that it climbs a mountain and appears again when it crosses a gorge. Its terminal ‘Yagiyama Zoological Park Station’is the highest subway station in Japan, 136.4above sea level.
