What I Wished to Know When I was a Child [Weekly]

Weekly Topic: What I wished to know when I was a child

Nov 12, 2019

Childhood seems like a long time ago...

There is not one thing I wish I knew. I wish I knew many things.

First, I wish I knew the importance of finishing something I started.

Many years ago, I was a student of Tae Kwon Do. (Korean Self Defense Martial Arts)
I was a student for many years. I started at the white belt and progressed until the red belt.
I only had one more test to do until I earned the black belt - the highest ranking belt!

I was turning 13 at the time, so I was no longer a child. I didn't have the motivation or the confidence to take the black belt test, so I quit. I think I was getting bored with the classes.

I stopped just before finishing. I gave up. Even today, I regret not finishing.

I wish I knew the importance of finishing something I started.

Another thing I wish I knew when I was a child is to learn new things.

Learning new things is wonderful. I like learning new skills or discovering something new. When you are a child, it's easy for you to learn new things quickly. I wish I studied languages or practiced skills when I was younger. Now that I am older, it's still great to learn new things, but maybe I feel like I wasted some time.

The last thing I wish I knew when I was a child is to take risks.

When you are young, taking risks is less...risky.

I was a very cautious child.

I never wanted to get in trouble. My friends sometimes did dangerous things (but not too dangerous) and I would always worry. I worried a lot! I don't know why I had so much anxiety as a child. I was very afraid of taking risks.

I don't regret some of the risks I took when I was a child. I wish I was more adventurous. I never wanted to do anything very dangerous. You are only a child once!

However, I have never broken a bone, or been hospitalized, so that's good news for me. Maybe being cautious isn't a bad thing? I'm still cautious today!

So how about you, reader? What do you wish you knew when you were a child?
I'm interested in your answer. Thanks for reading!
