Crazy And Funny Facts You Should Know

Sep 3, 2020

Dear, Readers.

It feels great to be back with another column of Crazy And Funny Facts You Should Know.

The weather is rather pleasant in southern Thailand these days.

I went on a short holiday with my family. It had been a while because of the virus restrictions.

It was a pleasant time.

I hope you are all having fun in studying English.

Now, back to the crux of the matter, today, we are going all the way to South America.

We are going way back, way back in time.

Did you know that;

Chocolate was used as a currency in ancient civilizations of Mexico and South America.

The ancient Mayans used cocoa beans—the principal ingredient in chocolate—as a currency, according to a study published in the journal Economic Anthropology.

The research suggests that during the Classic Maya period (250-900 CE) cacao was exchanged for goods and services.

A tribe called Aztecs also traded with Mayans (a Mesoamerican civilization) for cocoa beans, as they believed that they were the gift of Quetzalcoatl, the God of wisdom.

The cocoa beans that were used to make the liquid chocolate were largely used as a barter currency for the exchange of food and clothes.

Now, that is very interesting. I like chocolate. It would have been fun living during those times.

It is amazing how far the human race has come. From chocolate currency to electronic currency. Human innovation always surprises me.

I hope you enjoyed this edition. I am looking forward to bringing you more fun facts.

Have a happy week, and see you soon.
