Lifehack: The Enthusiastic Bottle Opener

Weekly Topic: A Small Lifehack to Share

Sep 8, 2020

The other day, I sat down at the table in our kitchen with a bottle of beer and was getting comfortable when suddenly it occurred to me (= I realized) that I'd forgotten to get the bottle opener, which was in a drawer on the other side of the kitchen! Too far away! I was tired and didn’t feel like getting out of my chair, so I was in need of a lifehack.

In my college days, I used to open bottles with my back teeth, which was a nice little party trick, but it was also chipping away parts of my teeth so I decided to stop. Another hack that has also worked well in the past is using the bottom end of a lighter to lift the lid off the bottle. However, because there are no smokers in my house anymore, that means there are no lighters so that wasn’t an option either.

Just when I was facing the reality that I might have to get out of my chair, I remembered that recently my daughter has been enjoying the action of opening my beer bottle at dinner time. She was nearby, so I asked her to grab the bottle opener and she enthusiastically obliged (= agreed to do it).

Not only did my daughter come to the rescue (= save me), but she also opened the bottle with a big smile on her face and seemed genuinely happy to help. So, I guess the lifehack here is to know when yours and your daughter’s interests match up. I like beer and my daughter likes opening bottles – it’s a perfect match!
