Second wave of the pandemic is underway in Canada

Freitag, 25. September 2020, 02:18

Our Prime Minister addressed the nation yesterday, saying "In our four biggest provinces, the second wave isn't just starting, it is already underway."

My family and I live in Toronto, Ontario.  Our number of coronavirus cases in Ontario is between 300-400 a day.  The numbers surged after the long weekend before school started, with many young people disregarding Government warnings and held beach parties and home parties without masks and social distancing.   There was a wedding party of 200 people in one house!

Last week, the Ontario Premier has passed a new by-law to limit private indoor social gathering to 10 people only.  The host or organizer will face a penalty of C$10,000, and each attendee will pay C$750.  The hefty fine is to discourage people from breaking the rule.

Since schools reopened in early September, there have been a few cases of staff and students being infected with COVID 19.

The pandemic has changed our way of shopping, from shopping in the malls to shopping online. It has also changed our ways of spending money.  Before the pandemic, people went to restaurants more, and now people cook at home.

The sale of personal computers and video games has gone up, and I believe sale of work clothes and other clothing has gone down, since we don't really need to look good at home.

Experts say that with the Prime Minister's announcement yesterday, people may start panicking and stock up on household items, just like in March.  I try to stay calm and convince myself that life is still fine, but with all these news going on, it is hard not to be affected negatively.  I wouldn't say I am depressed yet, but I am starting to have pandemic related anxiety.

Let's keep our fingeres crossed and hope things will get back to normal soon.
