Neither a Night Owl Nor an Early Bird?!?

Weekly Topic: Are you an early bird or a night owl?

Dee Dee

Have you ever heard of the term "Night Owl"?

A person who tends to stay up until late at night, or the early hours of the morning is called a night owl, evening person or simply owl.

I used to be a night owl for as long as I remember. However, this year my sleeping habit have changed drastically.

I used to feel that my brain worked the best at night as if I just had a large cup of coffee. Although, I never drink coffee. I am a tea person. During the day I felt active physically and I wanted to do something that is a perfect balance between physical activity and mentally simulating. During the night, I felt like I could focus better on doing things that require mainly mental activity. I could study, think, read, and I could be very creative too. Nighttime is very peaceful and quiet, and everybody else is asleep, which is perfect for focusing.

This year I decided to change my sleeping habit. I started to go to bed before midnight and wake up early. It feels great and I feel so much more energetic. Though, I wonder if that means that I am not a Night Owl anymore?!

Then what is an Early Bird?
Based on Wikipedia: "A lark, early bird, morning person or, in Scandinavian countries, an A-person, is a person who usually gets up early in the morning and goes to bed early in the evening. The lark (bird) starts its day very early, which explains the choice of the word lark for people who may sleep from around 10 p.m. to 6 a.m. or earlier."

I do not go to bed at 10 PM, so I guess that does not make me an Early Bird either.
??

I found out that there are two more types of people. Based on a research study, those who are not exactly a morning type or an evening type are called the "napper" and the "afternoon" type.

According to sciencealert.com, "Afternoon-ers are generally sleepy in the morning and the evening, with their alertness peaking somewhere between noon and evening. On the other side, nappers are generally sleepy from 11 am to 3 pm, and wakeful in the mornings and evenings."

I guess that makes me the "napper" type.

How about you? Which type are you?
