Crazy And Funny Facts You Should Know

Apr 15, 2021

Dear, Readers.

What a great pleasure it is to be back with another installment of Crazy And Funny Facts You Should Know.

I hope you are doing well, and have been enjoying reading the previous columns.

It is Thai New Year this week. I wrote a fun fact about the Songkran Holiday in Thailand. Please, read it again if you would like to know more about this wonderful holiday.

However, the celebrations have been heavily toned down this time around because of the pandemic.

I have a big surprise for you. I have posted a video for the first time to go with this post. The video will provide more information to the more curious.

Well, I have an amazing fun fact for you today. As I often do, I will find inspiration in the animal kingdom. It is like a well that never stops giving.

I will talk about snails today. Did you know that;

A serious
study was conducted to determine sleep habits and patterns of snails, and what they found was quite interesting.

Andre Beukes - Google+ | Nature animals, Animals, Animals beautiful

Snails are one of the living creatures on the planet that don’t follow the rotation of the sun for their sleep cycle. They follow a two or three-day-long pattern. They will go through about seven short cycles of sleep in thirteen hours and then be fully active for about thirty hours.

They are sensitive to the environment and tend to be more active at night as the sun is not their friend and can dry and damage them. Being that they like to stay moist and live in humid climates. The ideal temperature is 16 ~ 30℃ and the ideal air humidity is 60% ~ 90%.

Snails can go into long periods of sleep, also called hibernation when weather conditions are not favorable or other extreme factors threaten their survival. And get this, they can sleep for up to three years!

Three years! Can you believe that?

It is jaw-dropping how different animals can be. You can post comments below, or on the video, if you have observations you would want to share.

I am looking forward to bringing you more fun facts. Enjoy the rest of the week. See you soon.
