It is great to be back with another installment of Crazy And Funny Facts You Should Know. I appreciate your patience.
It has been another wet week in southern Thailand. It is pretty normal and will go on for at least six months. Farmers have started to plant rice. It is the staple crop of Thailand. 
Did you know that in some regions of Thailand, farmers can have two rice crops in a single year? Thailand is also one of the biggest rice exporters in the world.
Check out the supermarket shelves in your neighborhood. They might have some Thai rice in stock. 
Today, I am taking you all the way to the USA. I will talk about the “Windy City.”
Chicago is most famously known as the “Windy City.” Why is it called that and is Chicago really windy? Let’s find some answers.
Well, when the nickname came to be, the “Windy City” wasn’t describing the weather but the people. 
Nineteenth-century journalists first gave Chicago this designation when criticizing the city’s elite as “full of hot air.” In the Chicago Daily Tribune, a reporter wrote in 1858 that “[a] hundred militia officers, from corporal to commander … air their vanity … in this windy city.”
More and more journalists—from Cincinnati in particular—began using the “Windy City” jab, and it stuck. 
Despite the unflattering nickname, it certainly seems like Chicago got the last laugh: it was recently named the best city in America. So don’t let wind, literal or otherwise, stop you from taking a trip there.
I was literally shocked when I came across this little fun fact. All along, I thought the Windy City was really windy!
