3 Unique Places in the New York and Philadelphia Countrysides

Weekly Topic: 3 Best Places to Visit in Your Country/Town

Stella Nakatsuka

These are my 3 favorite places to visit in the New York City and Philadelphia region. They take you out of the city and into the suburbs and countryside.

First is historical Washington’s Crossing located on the Delaware River in Pennsylvania and New Jersey. It’s steeped in history and beautiful scenery. Taking a drive around the area is also a pleasure. There are historical houses set throughout the area and one that has sheep and goats. You can also tour the historical houses, gardens, and museums on both the New Jersey and Pennsylvania side.

Next is the Pennsylvania Renaissance Faire. I believe this is a uniquely American place. It’s an outdoor fair set up to take place in the 1500/1600’s complete with period entertainment and shopping experience. A lot of visitors also love to dress up in costume, whether it’s period accurate or purely fantasy. You can find many people eating giant turkey legs and pickles on a stick.

Lastly is Grounds for Sculpture in Hamilton, NJ. It's quite unique! It's a large park and garden filled with sculptures. Some sculptures are modern and some are 3D replicas of famous paintings. There is also a picturesque restaurant called Rats that transports you to another time and place.

I hope if you live in the area or plan to visit that you can take some time to explore these unique places!
