The 15-minute morning study rule

Weekly Topic: Choose one thing that you consider important when studying

Feb 23, 2022

The best way to improve your English is to make studying part of your daily routine. Remember that when you're actively studying - reading the news, listening to a podcast, focusing on a textbook grammar point, taking a lesson - you are making progress. However, when you are not doing any of these things, progress isn't possible.

The problem is that people are too busy or they like the idea of studying, but find it hard to motivate themselves to sit down and hit the books (= study). That's where the 15-minute morning study rule comes in handy (= is useful). Why 15 minutes? It usually takes about 5-10 minutes to get into the flow of studying, but if you push on a little longer, you might just start to enjoy it and keep going.

Why in the morning? Some people think more clearly at the beginning of the day, especially with a cup of coffee to boost their concentration. Another reason is that after those 15 minutes have passed, you can enjoy the rest of the day knowing that you have already completed your study goal, and review in your mind what you learned during your morning session.

So, how about getting up a little earlier than usual tomorrow? Set the timer for 15 minutes, switch your brain to 'study mode' and when that alarm goes off, decide whether you want to continue or not. Give it a try!
