GREEK EASTER

Nicoleta

To many Greeks, Easter means red eggs, buns and lamb on a spit. But Easter Sunday is the end of a 40-day fasting period. During these 40 days meat is prohibited, as are all products of animal origin. As we approach Easter we try to be modest, to be content with the basics in life, to forgive and to learn to care for others as much as we do for ourselves. Greek Easter is extremely traditional and important in Greece, even more than Christmas. In many villages customs are maintained since centuries and the Great Week is celebrated in a spirit of reverence and devotion in the beautiful Greek churches.
Happy Easter to all on the 24th of April!!! :)
