Enjoying your birthday

Apr 26, 2022

Childhood is usually a time filled with amazing birthday parties with themes and lots of friends, food, and fun, but as we get older, we tend to forget about our birthdays and not enjoy them as much. Some people even begin to hate birthdays because they’re a reminder of getting older. Up until last year, I did the typical ‘adult’ thing - had a nice dinner out, bought myself something small as a treat, and spent a lot of time answering the phone and replying to messages on Facebook. My birthday was an excuse to skip cooking for one night and indulge a little, but it wasn’t much of a celebration.

That changed in 2021 when I decided to start enjoying my birthday again, and I came up with a theme to plan around. This year, I’m going to do it again, and the theme this time is… Jurassic Park! The new movie Jurassic World: Dominion will be released on June 10th, and my birthday is on June 17th, so why not! I’ll watch the new movie, see the Toronto Symphony Orchestra play some music from Jurassic Park, have some Jurassic IPA beer with ribs, and maybe make a dinosaur cake haha! I hope I can continue to enjoy my birthday for many years to come and not worry about being too serious anymore.

So, how do you celebrate your birthday? Is it still fun for you, or are you one of the people who dread their birthday because it means getting older?
