MY TOPIC THIS WEEK: Four Strategies for Decluttering Small Spaces

Weekly Topic: A word in your native language which you find it hard to pronounce

Oct 17, 2022

Decluttering has been proven to improve mental health. It can also make you more productive. The idea of decluttering is to get rid of things that are unused, broken, or not worth the space they take up. However, decluttering even small spaces can be a daunting task.

You might not know where to start or what you should keep or toss. It can also be difficult because of your emotional attachment to your belongings – even if they are old and worn out, there are still memories attached.

If you are struggling to declutter, first take notice of your current habits and see how you can work with them, not against them. Then, remember to be kind and patient with yourself throughout the process, as decluttering can produce feelings of anxiety, depression, or a feeling like you don’t have control anymore.

These four tips are a great place to start when your considering decluttering a space.

IDEAS FROM ME:

Rethink Your Storage System

Start by rethinking your storage system. Simplify it by organizing your belongings into containers. Clear out what isn't needed in your space and donate or recycle it. Place similar items together, like books, shoes, and clothing.

As you go through this process, think about how you can rearrange the furniture to open up floor space. Decluttering is not just about what you want to get rid of; it’s also about reorganising the things you want to keep for maximum use and value.

Start With The Five Minute Method

The five-minute declutter method is a strategy for decluttering your home, office, or other space. This strategy is based on the idea that if you spend just five minutes organizing something, it will be easier to do it again in the future. Plus, you’ll feel better about the result.

The One In - One Out Method

This decluttering method takes one item out of the room and replaces it with another more valuable item. You repeat this process until no more unwanted items are left in the room. It is an easy decluttering method, but it can be time-consuming if you want to do it thoroughly.

Learn Minimalism
Why Minimalism?! | Minimalism, Minimalism challenge, Aesthetic words
When it comes to decluttering small spaces, minimalism can be a great tool to help you organize your home or office space. It’s about simplifying your life and finding joy in your things instead of focusing on what you don't have. It's about making room for the things you love and then letting go of everything else.

Decluttering your home can often be overwhelming, especially with limited space. However, with these tips, the process becomes much more manageable. The primary purpose of decluttering is to maximize your space while including things that add value to it.

FROM THE PROFESSIONALS

“In the never-ending battle between order and chaos, clutter sides with chaos every time. Anything that you possess that does not add to your life or your happiness eventually becomes a burden.” - John Robbins

“Clutter is the physical manifestation of unmade decisions fueled by procrastination.” - Christina Scalise

FOR HOMEWORK

How does decluttering help your mind? What do you find the best method for you?
