Hello, and welcome to Speak Good English with Yishu. Are you ready to learn today's phrase with me?
There's an English phrase that we use when we want to partly agree and partly disagree. For example, you asked me if I enjoyed my holiday or not. If my answer was 'yes and no', what I meant was that I enjoyed my holiday a bit, but not completely. There were some 'issues' to it.
We can talk more about that right after these examples.
- When I asked her if she was still angry with me, she just said 'yes and no'!
- Yes and no! What kind of answer is that? Just tell me if you want to go out tomorrow.
- The cricket coach just said 'yes and no' when she was asked if she was happy with the current team.
This is my column where we learn a simple but useful English expression. Today, we learned about 'yes and no', which we use to answer questions and show that it's not completely 'yes' or 'no'.
Do you like the phrase today? I am Yishu. See you tomorrow and bye for now!
