Reading books

Weekly Topic: Talk about one of your popular lessons!

Feb 6, 2023

Often people choose lessons where we read a book during the class. This can be a light book like The Wind and the Willows, with talking animals, or it can be a more advanced class to read a Shakespeare sonnet.

In the past, people have read The Famous Five (a classic children's adventure story and good fun), A Christmas Carol by Charles Dickens and The Well of Loneliness by Radclyffe Hall (LGBTQ).
I have lessons for lighter and for harder books and for different lengths of time.

During the lesson, we can read aloud the book, practise pronunciation, learn vocabulary or grammar, and find out about things in the background of the story. In advanced lessons, we can also look at techniques of the author. Usually the stories are older classics.

These lessons are for adults and suit intermediate or advanced students. They are best for people who like to practise English in their own way, and who like to find out broader cultural information.
You can also book a trial lesson to discuss what might be suitable to read.
