MY TOPIC THIS WEEK: Six Tips to Trusting Yourself More

Feb 25, 2023

Self-trust is essential for a happy and fulfilling life. When you trust yourself, you are more likely to make decisions that reflect your true desires and values. You are also more likely to follow through on your commitments, which can lead to tremendous success and satisfaction.

Unfortunately, many people struggle with self-trust. They may doubt their ability to make good decisions, or they may be afraid of failing. As a result, they may second-guess themselves often, which can lead to anxiety and unhappiness.

If you want to learn how to trust yourself more, here are six tips that can help.

IDEAS FROM ME

Get to Know Yourself

Knowing who you are, especially your principles, morals, and values, is the best way to start trusting yourself. Spend time thinking about your values, goals, and desired outcomes in life. The more you understand what matters to you, the easier it will be to make decisions that reflect your true desires.

Journaling will help you know yourself better. This is because it is a judgment-free zone where you are the only one who reads it (unless you decide to change that yourself). However, to truly get to know yourself, you need to ask the right questions and be as honest as possible.

Here are some questions to help you get started;

1.    What are my core values?

2.    What do I want to achieve in life?

3.    What are my desired outcomes in life?

4.    What motivates me?

5.    How do I define success?

6.    What makes me happy?

7.    Why do I doubt myself?

Be Honest with Yourself

Self-trust starts with being honest with yourself. To make good decisions, you need to be honest about your strengths and weaknesses. In addition, it would help if you were honest about your goals and what you’re willing to do to achieve them.

Make a Commitment

To trust yourself more, you need to commit to yourself. This means setting goals and taking action towards them. It also means being honest about your mistakes and learning from them.

Be Patient

Building self-trust takes time, so be patient. Allow yourself to make mistakes. Remember that every decision is an opportunity to learn and grow.

Take Risks

An effective way to build self-trust is to take risks. This doesn’t mean being reckless but rather challenging yourself and stepping outside of your comfort zone. When you take risks, you’ll learn more about yourself and your capabilities.

Trust Your Intuition

One of the best ways to make good decisions is to trust your intuition. Listen to your gut instinct and pay attention to your emotions. These can be powerful guides when it comes to making decisions.

By trusting yourself, you can lead the life you are meant to live. Use these six tips to help you build self-trust and make better decisions.

From the Professionals

“Trust yourself, you know more than you think you do.” — Dr. Benjamin Spock
“Trust yourself. Create the kind of self that you will be happy to live with all your life. Make the most of yourself by fanning the tiny, inner sparks of possibility into flames of achievement.” — Golda Meir
"As soon as you trust yourself, you will know how to live." — Johann Wolfgang von Goethe

If you were to rate yourself from 1-10 (1 as the lowest and 10 the highest), how much do you trust yourself? Why did you give yourself that rating?
