When is Halloween celebrated? Celebration traditions in Ukraine.
Halloween is one of the most popular holidays in the USA, Canada, Great Britain and Ireland. It is not state-owned, but it is very common among the population. It is on this day that it is customary to dress up in various costumes that symbolize "evil power" and walk around neighbors with the words "Trick or treat" ("Candies or death"). When is Halloween celebrated and what traditions exist on this day? Thanks to the influence of American culture, Halloween has spread to the whole world. In many European countries, All Saints' Day is also celebrated by decorating homes with pumpkins and various themed decorations for the holiday, as well as throwing parties. Traditionally, Halloween is celebrated on the night from October 31 to November 1. Halloween 2023: traditions of the holiday Today, during the celebration of Halloween, it is customary to decorate the house with various festive attributes, among which the main role is played by a lantern made of a pumpkin in the form of a head. Also traditionally, children dress up in bright or scary costumes and go around the neighbors begging for candy. Adults hang out at themed costume parties, playing pranks on each other or telling scary stories. Also, on this day, various fortune-telling plays an important role. For example, young girls should climb the stairs in a dark house or building with their backs facing forward and hold a candle in front of a mirror. After that, you can allegedly see the face of your future husband in the mirror. If a skull appears, it portends death. But in Scotland, girls cut off the skin of an apple and threw it over their shoulders into the water. It was believed that whatever form it takes, the name of the convicted person begins with that letter.
