The Swiss Alps: a snow paradise!

Weekly Topic: The best destinations for snow lovers

Montag, 27. November 2023, 02:41

Have you watched the K-drama Crash Landing on You, which was filmed in Switzerland in part? Or maybe you have seen movies set in the gorgeous Swiss countryside like Heidi? Well, those films and depictions (= showing something in a picture or story) do not lie. Switzerland is a breathtakingly beautiful country with the famous Swiss Alps running through the center of it.

We are a country with high mountains, which means we have some areas with snow all year long. Skiing, sledding, snowboarding, snowshoeing (= hiking while wearing snow shoes), and even swimming in semi-frozen alpine lakes (= lakes in the Alps usually with very cold water) can all be enjoyed here. I swim in our local alpine lake all year long, and our winters are long and cold.

If you prefer eating fondue (= melted cheese you dip pieces of bread in), Switzerland is the place for you, too. There are many restaurants in the mountains which offer it. And if the weather is nice, you can eat it outdoors.

Maybe you want to sleep in an igloo (= house made of snow)? No problem. Switzerland has got lots of those, too! Or perhaps you want to be pulled over the snow by a team of huskies (= powerful dogs which pull sleds)? If so, Switzerland is once again the place for you.

And for about 2 - 3 weeks before Christmas, you can stroll (= walk slowly) through Christmas markets surrounded by historic buildings while sipping on something warm, like mulled wine (= wine served warm with fruit and cinammon flavor) or hot chocolate.

What makes a trip here special is not only the snow, food, traditions, sports, and sights, but the safety tourists experience. In fact, the US News and World Report says Switzerland is the safest country in the world. Japan, believe it or not, is only ranked 16th. https://www.usnews.com/news/best-countries/rankings/safe

So come to Switzerland and have fun while feeling safe in the snow. If you cannot travel now, book a lesson with me and we can chat about life in Switzerland and in the country you live in!
