My village’s New Year’s Day tradition.

Jan 2, 2024

Every New Year's Day for nearly 25 years my family has taken part in the Duck Race. We sell plastic ducks to our family and friends, name them and race them down the river that I played in as a kid.

This year the event made local news and a mention on the BBC news website. We released 1800 plastic yellow ducks from Parry's Bridge to Lower Church Road Bridge on the other side of the village. Once let loose everyone walks to the second bridge to see which ducks win prizes.

It was sunny but cold with beautiful blue sky all morning. People came from far and wide to join in the fun, wish each other a Happy New Year and catch up on local news.

Watch all the videos to see a snap shot of an English village. A lot of people continue the celebrations in the village pub.

I hope you and your family had a wonderful New Year's celebration. I will be available for lessons again next week.
